MYTHS
Not if they’re applied correctly.
“If the extensions are applied correctly and to each individual lash, they won’t damage your lashes but if they are applied with too much glue or if they are stuck together in clumps then they can,” I follow your natural lash growth, so depending on where your natural growth cycle is, the fullness may take a few appointments to achieve.
“Eyelashes have a growth cycle of six weeks.and then they shed. Puttng them on individually, allows them to shed when they grow out. They will then fall out naturally with your normal lash.
Lashes are not only for beauty, they are also for function! They are used to keep dust, dirt and irritants out of your eye! They are precious and only professionally trained techs using the safest products should be considered. I use Bella Lash products that are safe for almost everyone. An information sheet will give me the information I need to determine if you are not a candidate for lashes.
Not at all. In fact, it's the perfect opportunity for a nap.
The process starts with the bottom lashes being taped down and your eyes closed. Although it is medical grade tape, removing it can be slightly uncomfortable.
"The eyelash technician will then pick up lashes with tweezers, dip them in glue, isolate one natural lash and then attach the synthetic lash onto your natural lash one by one."
It depends on experience or the number of lashes a person has, but general average time for a full set of lashes is one and a half to two hours. Occassionally there can be some tugging during a fill but the feeling is more uncomfortable rather than painful. If you are highly sensitive let the lash tech know.
Again, not if they're applied correctly and are not too heavy.
"Most people do want them longer and you can generally see if their lashes are starting to look a little sparse,"
"A good technician will notice and let the client know they are getting too heavy and are causing minor lash damage, so they need to either go down a length or use a lighter type." I never more than double the length and thickness, please trust me when I choose the length and thickness, it is to preserve the integrity of your natural lashes. You will still get a beautiful set.
Please, please don't.
"If you pick your eyelash, you can traumitize the follicle and it won't grow back from that spot.
"No growth serum will magically make them grow back unless there's a natural hair follicle."
Any good eyelash technician will offer a service to remove lashes. If you need to remove them yourself, use cocunut oil and steaming and gently wipe them until they come off, no pulling or picking!
Yes, they can save time but they do require minor maintenance.
"You can't get them wet for 24 hours, which is just a precaution while the glue is curing,"
"Also avoid products with oil for the whole duration as it softens the bonding of the glue." Like oil makeup removers, water-proof mascara, lotions etc.
You should also be washing your lashes with an oil-free cleanser everyday to remove a build up of dead skin, natural oils and makeup that collects. It's hygienic and will ensure you get the best life out of your extensions (usually about three weeks). I have a cleanser that is included in my full set or you can purchase one for $26 at any appointment.
"Most people find that they don't need mascara on top, but it depends on how dramatic you want that look. Once you've had them for a while, you may get used to them and feel the need to put mascara on,"
If you do, make sure it's oil-free and not water proof, or I can order a Bella Lash extension safe mascara for you!
Aftercare is so important! It prolongs the life and look of your extensions and protects your natural lashes. While extensions are fairly maintenance free, they will require the below attention.
WHAT TO DO!
1) Do not get them wet or steamed for 24 hours after your appointment! This includes sweat, doing things like hot yoga, spray tans, saunas etc.
2) Brush your lashes often with your complimentary mascara wand. This will keep them neat as well.
3)Use only oil-free face products and make up removers. This includes creamy oil based make-up, waxy eyeliners, anti-aging creams, serums, coconut oil etc. Even if you are not applying them to the eye area they could transfer to your pillow case, arm, etc. There are a ton of oil free products that are extension safe.
4) NEVER use waterproof mascara, no mascara ever is even better. This can break the bond of your extension or cause them to clump and be difficult to remove. While most extensions will eliminate the need or want for mascara if you need a little extra, apply it to the tips only, and it must be water based and not water proof. I can order you an extension safe mascara.
5) NEVER use a eyelash curler or pull or pick any extensions off. Rubbing your eyes can transfer bacteria and oils from your hands not only damaging the extension and natural lash, it can introduce bacteria into your eye! Rubbing and pulling can cause the natural lash to fall out and may not grow back.
6) Try to avoid sleeping on your face, if this is impossible use a silk pillowcase.
7) Cleanse your lashes daily. I offer a cleanser that's $27 and will last forever...
8) Avoid BBQ flames and bon fire flames, they can singe the ends of the extensions. Extreme steam can make them fall off prematurely.
9) Book a fill for every 2-3 weeks.
Certain medications will cause your eyelashes to shed faster, as will pregnancy and can require more frequent fills.
On average we will shed 3-5 natural lashes per day. Its normal to see extensions coming out, they shed naturally with your lashes.
Before an appointment please remove all your make up and cleanse your lashes as much as you can.
An average appointment for a new set is 2.5 hours, if you have a lot of lashes or your lashes are a little difficult to work with it may take longer. An average appointment for fills is 1 - 2 hours. Please make sure to schedule enough time.
I work with the natural lashes. Please don't expect your extensions to look exactly like someone elses, they likely will not. Everyone is different. I do my best to give you a beautiful unique set you'll love.
I can't always fill someone else's work. If you come for a fill because your lashes have been applied incorrectly elsewhere, you will likely need them removed and a new set applied.
As it heats up we tend to wear less makeup. Eyelash extensions eliminate the need for running mascara. While its true you cannot get them wet for 24 hours, after that you can do any normal activity, like swimming! Who hasn't had mascara running down your face or burning your eyes while swimming...
With a wide range of mapping techniques you can achieve a new and creative look every time you come in. For a summer bronzed look add some lighter brown coloured extensions. The sky is the limit on achieving your look.
FALL LOOKS
My favorite look of the season is seaters, boots, and eyelashes as thick as our scraves!
It's that time of the year again! With the change in climate we see an increasing amount of hair loss on our body and that includes your eyelashes.
While we are continually shedding eyelashes on a daily bases during the spring and summer this increases significantly.
This means, faster lash loss, lashes are thinner and shorter, more frequent fills, and may not look as full after a fill as normal. But hang in there, this is temporary and usually lasts around 6 weeks.
The biggest compliment is a referral! Refer a new client for a full set and you will get $5 off your next fill!
